I have a PS2, promising myself that I wouldn't spend any more money on any more consoles. Then the PS3 comes out. Now I only play sports games (NCAA, Madden, etc.). I haven't gotten any of the newest games for NCAA and Madden for the PS2 because I don't know if I should give in and get a PS3 since the price dropped. The PS3 seems to have an edge on the PS2 in terms of the graphics but I've heard from others that it's not as good in terms of playability as the PS2. Also, I don't know how much longer Sony's gonna continue produce PS2 games. Finally, other games that I would like to play (Raw v. Smackdown and UFC Unleashed) haven't gone to the PS2. What should I do? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

To be honest, I would stick with PS2 for the games, unless you get that one special PS3 60 gig that had the rare backwards compatability function to play former console games.

I agree with Rune, I've still got my old PS2, and haven't sprung for the PS3 for that exact reason.

Yeah, what happened to the 'be able to play PS3, PS2 and PS games' function that Sony advertised when the PS3 came out? That's why I haven't purchased the PS3 as of yet.

I have one of those models, though it did sometimes lose the memory for the different gen games.

I got a high end PS3 when it first came out. For those of you that don't know the difference between the regular and the high end models, the high end was $100 more, had about double the memory and a blue-ray disc reader installed for better graphics. Worth it all around, in my opinion. Also, when they first came out, all PS3 systems had full backwards compatability with any PS1 or PS2 game. However, I've been told recent PS3 systems do not have full backwards compatability. Normally I would say getting a PS3 is something to do if you're a gamer, but since you say you only play sports games, I'm not so sure. Though, I don't play sports games, so I would agree with Rune and say to stick with your PS2 unless you can find a PS3 with backwards compatability.

I'm sticking with my ps2 still... but the new games releasess...
seems cheaply made

if you every played Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 or GhostBusters ps2 port version and Secret Agent Clank. you know what i mean... they don't convert or debug them as good...
like a lazy converting.

Currently, Sony is working on a emulation solution so they can offer PS2 titles on the PSN market. so for now keep the ps2 untell they release the emulater software for the PS3 to play PS2 games.

((Um... guys, not to sound elitest here, but... you can still plug your PS2 into the same TV as a PS3. I have yet to see a TV blow up under such conditions. And I've tried to blow up my TV... you should see all the crap I have plugged into the back of it.

sorry... it just kinda bugs me sometimes when people cry and cry and cry for backwards compatability. Cassette players can't play 8-track tapes. CD-players can't do vinyl records. Shoot, every tryed playing an NES game on a Super NES, or an N-64?

Point being, something doesn't need backwards compatibility. If you want to play your PS2 games, play them on your PS2. I'm sure the PS2 won't feel bad and pout if you get another game system. Geeze.))

Very True. I've got my N64 plugged into the same tv that my wii is connected to. i think the main reason for wanting backwards compatability would be if the older systems break down on you. For instance, my N64, isn't the original one i got when I was like 9. But other than that, its really pure laziness. Rolling Eyes *shrug*

or u mean money making by buying those old classic games in the new systems online game stores that let you play old console games.

that seem to be "emulated" for the new systems.
