I am not surprised that 30,000 signed a petition for the US to build a Death Star Battle station. I am surprised that SO FEW signed such a petition.
A recent survey showed that there a 5 guns registered for every man, woman and child in the US of A, that's registered. That does not include the illegal ones. Every thing from .22's to F#~king R.P.G's, some of the weapons in civilian hands would put some modern armies to shame.
But WTF lets see what it would look like.

We are grey. We stand between the star and the candle.

I actually just read this in the Yahoo news. Its kinda funny. We barely have the technology to keep our own satellites in orbit, yet they want to be ambitious enough to build technology that has'nt even been developed.

Hence the $850quadrillion budget. It's all for research and development. XD

Research that won't even be have any kind of gaurantee to succeed. For all we know, it may take that much just to develop the tech, and not the station.

were not smart enough to make a good jet-pack or a hover-car... so why they think we can make a moon size battle ship? XD
heck in the year 3000 I think were never gonna do "real" scifi things
that are not near good from the films.

((Hey all,

Maybe it isn't such a bad idea. Think about it this way... iffn all we dream are small dreams, we'll only make small steps. Iffn we dream big dreams, we'll dream big steps.

It took a lot of hutzpah to even try to put a man in space, let alone the moon... and a lot of big, dangerous, "stupid", ideas to get those people onto the moon.

Anyway, I'm all for it. Anything that helps out our space program, and gets us closer to actually having lunar colonies, and martian stations I'm all for. ))

I will admit that it would have its benefits. For one, massive, orbital plantations could prove a massive boon for Earth. In space, the enviroment can be controlled so there would be no need to worry about crops forever being at the mercy of an unstable climate and there'd be no need for pesticides because there'd be minimal risk of bugs and such getting in. Hydroponics isn't as sci-fi as it's made out to be and massive plantations can be used to generate the oxygen needed for up there. With a steady flow of crops from orbital plantations, prices would drop because of the low risk and unpredictable conditions.

However, I doubt placing WMDs on a massive space station would be a good idea, especially if said weapons placed a specific country in a greater advantage over other superpowers. If America were to build a Death Star with fully capable weaponry, I highly doubt Russia, China, Korea and other countries would just sit by and allow America to take the step up to a position where they are literally the dominant military force on the planet.

Hello World War 3.

That and people of higher authority would probably abuse such a weapon to hold everyone on earth at gunpoint to meet their demands.
